Just finished this fabulous book. Fantastic! A must read for ANY jazz enthusiast.  :thumb:

Packed with details of JC's life and his music. Especially his music, which is well explained on both macro (explorations, directions and style) and micro (sheet music) levels. I now have FAR more appreciation for his music, especially the final years which, for me, require explanation to even begin to appreciate. I agree with what McCoy Tyner once said ... John's presence shows that "God still speaks to man" and sends us "messengers".

Lewis Porter is known as "THE" guy when it comes to Trane. Incredibly knowledgeable, transcribed all his solos, etc. One of the top jazz scholars around. This is a no brainer book for any fan of Trane.

I also recommend Ashley Kahn's A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album. As a book about 1 record, it might be a bit overkill per some, but for a treasured masterpiece like ALS, is there really such a thing?  :nono:
