I use iTunes with the Apple Lossless codec and error correction selected to rip all my cds.

I have read that FLAC is supposed to be best for Logitech Transporter, and am wondering if there are perceptible sonic differences between ALAC and FLAC if there are no overt read errors during rip process?

If so, may I ask what perceptible differences people hear?

PLENTY already written on this.

I use FLAC only, but I did Google "ALAC vs FLAC" and found lots of user comments.

In the end FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF can all hold bit perfect copies of a cd.   Some products that stream might choose to convert the file to PCM or a format of thier choice.  This could make one format more desirable than another on a given product.    Network IO and disk IO would favor FLAC and ALAC as the file is zipped (in a sense) and CPU efficiency would favor WAV an AIFF assuming the CPU isn't waiting on Network/Disk IO.

Products like exact audio copy and rip is the start of checksums and as this matures it will be very easy to convert from one format to another without ripping the cd again.

I was wondering mainly if there is something intrinsic to the hardware or software of the Transporter that makes FLAC sound better than Apple Lossless.

I already did some google searches and didn't find much info.

I am mainly looking for a succinct summary of why, if it is true, FLAC sounds better than ALAC, specifically for the Transporter from a hardware / software point of view, and what differences people are consistently hearing.

(my whole cd collection is ripped into ALAC using iTunes and I like the convenience and interface of iTunes).  Sounds like I could batch convert everything to a separate FLAC library, but really want to find out if it is worth it)

Why not take a favorite song, rip it in both formats, listen for yourself, and decide?
