I've had 3 VMPS subs over the years, as well as many from other makers (currently using a pair of smallish and good but not comparable ACI Force XLs). If it wasn't for my space constrained condo living VMPS would be my first choice for subs hands down. When I had my last VMPS sub I came up with the term "bass imaging" to describe the effect they had. No sub I'd heard could produce an actual image of the bass instruments and events as we are used to hearing from most speakers from the mids on up. All others add weight and rumbling, but not a clean image of the source as do the VMPS. And they do it at a true bargain price.
Have fun!
This sub will eat an HSU tn-1220 ho, REL strata and dayton titanic for lunch.  It is superior to previous versions of the larger sub (even the carbon fiber equipped)  as the drivers are stronger now.  -However-  as much output as these have had in the past they won't hold a candle to (nothing will really)  to the new "OMG"  subs with the TC sounds drivers.  As powerful as this sub is...there is more to be had.  Probably 25%-33%  more power without any loss of definition.  That is just how linear and powerful the TC sounds drivers are supposed to be.  I may be upgrading one of these days.

If there is a substitute for a truly large volume, correctly vented subwoofer enclosure, I am not aware of it.

OK, the Larger Subwoofer is a full 8 cubic feet.  The VSS represents 7.5cu ft of trapped air.  The VLA is 12 cu ft of the same.  They take a little getting used to, visually.

While we now offer compact (3 cu ft) cubes for the Dedicated and 215 subs, if you can fit the big boxes, you will be amply rewarded.

All subs are designed for music reproduction.  It you plan to reproduce mostly explosions or subsonics, go for the TC upgrades.  We're making the VLA standard with four TC 12" for $5900ea (stock finishes) including 1000W rackmount amp/EQ/electronic xover.  I don't think anyone can do better, but I'm sure I'll hear about it on this very message board if they do.
