Crossover design load

Hi guys,

A passive crossover can be designed for a variety of speaker loads: (4/8 Ohm)

If I have 2 identical 8 Ohm mid-bass speakers wired in parallel and would like to design a crossover, should it be based on a 4 or 8 ohm speaker ?

I have been cracking my head for ages and still cant find an answer.

Normally, you would design a crossover for a measured (across the full audio band) speaker impedance vice using the nominal rating of a particular driver.  However, if using a generic calculator and using nominal impedance ratings you would use 4 ohms for your example.

Thanks Davey. Am planning on using 2 scanspeak Discovery 8 inch, 8 Ohm woofers in parallel crossed over at 300Hz LR2 to a 4inch midrange.The woofers have exceptionally smooth impedance from 100 to 700Hz of based on SS's graphs. Also this would allow me to use smaller crossover component values as the load is 4Ohms.

IF you connected two 8 ohms drivers in parallel the xover will see it as one driver and 4 ohms impedance, then a suited xover can be done.
