From other thread:

We will introduce the SoundScape 10's in MDF and a standard finish for $9999.  We will then evaluate after about 60 days or so to see if we can hold that price.  I hope we can, but we don't have any build experience to date, so it is hard to predict.

The SoundScape 12" in MDF and a standard finish will start at $13,999 to start.  Again, we will review in 60 days or so, but this price is more likely to hold.

I had to pay extra for a special custom veneer.

Beautiful speakers, Jim.  :thumb:

You're not kidding, either; that finish reflects everything! Is that Satchmo I see there?

Thanks for the pics,
Jerry

Satchmo, great! That's a nice finish. What's more impressive is, how the hell did Jim get the rear end of those SS12's to hover in mid-air like that???  Truly remarkable loudspeakers!!!!

I think Jim is practicing going "green" and conserving pixels.

Just in case anyone might not know the answer, there is only a single spike centered in the rear of the cabinet.  Why?  Because when a woofer section produces bass this deep, if four spikes were not set up perfectly, the cabinet could rock back and forth.  With three spikes, it is perfectly stable.

The dimensions of the bass modules for the 10" and 12" versions of the Soundscape may be posted somewhere, but I cannot find them. Could you provide this information, please?

tgp06 -

We have yet to do the documentation on these speakers.  But both woofer sections are 28" tall (without spikes or plinths) and 23" deep. The SoundScape 10 version is 12" wide and the SoundScape 12's are 15" wide.

The SoundScape 10's are built with 1 1/2" thick walls and the SoundScape 12's are built with 2" thick walls.  Both are extensively braced internally.

Planes fly that far with no problems.  This first pair is being flown to Europe.

What Jim is actually saying is that "three points always form a plane" (which I learned early in my math classes).  This is the same reason that milking stools have 3 legs, to sit level (nope, I wasn't raised on a farm, I just remember that, too).

I had this problem with an old sub of mine. If all 4 spikes weren't perfect it would make a really annoying rattling sound.

3 makes sense and it also results in more weight per spike.

Yes, the only drawback is that kids (2 legged and 4) can knock them over more easily.

Not much of a problem with these as I tried to lift one and it seems like it is made of lead!  That was the light 10" one too.
