What is my best choice between 1V and 2V gain settings?

James and others, can I get a clinical on the proper use of the gain selections on my new 7BSST2?  ? I have followed the manual's recommendation of 2V because I am using the balanced inputs on the amps.  The front end is just one piece--a modified Wadia 861 CD player.  There is no outboard pre-amp, just the player, which needs to play between 70 and 100 on its digital volume scale of 0 to 100.  This range has worked well for me in terms of listening levels, and is recommended by Wadia in order to send all of the digital information.  I am also advised by my audio dealer to not add a pre-amp unless needed for more sources. They tell me the Wadia has a fine output section. I am using Magnepan 3.6Rs, which are 4 ohm. Please evaluate this situation so I can sleep at night...... :)

Since the Wadia is designed to be used w/o a preamp, & you are w/in Wadia's range for not losing any bits (info), you can rest easy. No problemo.

Just go with what sounds best. You won't damage anything unless you toggle it while its too loud. Enjoy both.

Got this from a 2002 Stereophile review:

The maximum output level at 1kHz was 2.13V with Filter A from both balanced and unbalanced outputs, this dropping by 1dB to 1.9V when the filter was switched to type B. Filter C raised the level by 0.2dB compared with B, to 1.94V. These differences may be small, but because they cover the entire audioband, they will be audible.
