Need some Step-Up recommendations
« on: 16 Mar 2010, 11:47 pm »
Hi Folks,

I'm in need of a good step-up.  Here are my requirements:  must have multiple gain options and must have front panel loading options and be under 1K (new or used).  I will plug this into my pre that has a great MM phono stage.  The only model I can think of that satifies my requirements is the Graham Slee Elevator.  What else is out there?

I recently picked up a Beard Audio Systems HA-1. It's battery driven, silver wired and was built back in 1981. It has fully adjustable load impediance from 3-200 ohms and gain from 23-40db on the front plate. I have to make up a set of Cardas tonearm wire interconnects with ETI Copper Bullets to insert it in my system. I will post a picture later.

If Monolithic is still around they have that kind of flexibility.  I think they were reviewed, favorably, by Enjoy The Music but it may have been someone else.  With their partnering outboard power supply I think were around $600 in the 90's.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Jim, it looks like the Monolithic is actually a complete phono stage.  Am I right on this?  My two pres have great phono sections (MM) that I would like to take advantage of.  That's why I'm thinking SUT.

Keep 'em coming!

Not sure if this meets your needs.
