In considering in purchasing a 2x7B or a 14B, I searched for pros/cons.

I found this:
There would be 2 advantages to a 7B over a 14B.

The 7B being Mono allows you to place the amplifier very close to each speaker - always a good idea-- and the 7B has twice the capacitance in the power supply section over the 14B.

Other than that they are identical.


My question is: Does the new transformer change the above advantage?

Last year I did what you are now doing after deciding on Bryston from a couple other brands.  I went back and forth on the 14 or the 7's always leaning toward the 7's.  When I discovered this power supply capacitance advantage for the 7B's that's when I made the decision to go with the 7's figuring that more than justified the extra $400.00 or so.  I lucked out and bought SN's 1850 and 51 and the cutoff for the new transformer and capacitors is 1825.  Best wishes making your decision and don't torture yourself too long!

The new transformers in 7 or 14B may reduce the demand on large capacitors. Narrowing the difference between the two.
