Just Inherited--What is the Value
« on: 28 Dec 2009, 11:54 am »
I have just inherited a set of Super Tower/R, Special Edition & Super Tower III speakers.  They are in light oak and are in excellent condition.  Serial # 35-10066 and 35-10067.  I need to know a value for I sense they have some worth.  I also have a huge Onkyo amp and tuner that drives them.  You can hear the flames in the barrels of the cannons on the 1812 Overature.  They are just way too big for my house.  How can I market them?

You can market them here or at audiogon.com. I just did a search on audiogon and did not find any VMPS speakers.  The bad thing about Audiogon is they charge a fee based on closing price for the speakers.

You mean you have one set of the Super Tower/R Special Edition and one set of the Super Tower III?

Just as a heads up, the last set of Super towers I saw on ebay never sold. Theses were not the ribbon edition version and the asking prices was $7000, WAY TOO high for a speaker of that vintage. Do a search on this forum for some very good information on your new speakers.

You can always PM Brian here and get his thoughts on today's selling price plus the actual retail pricing, then pay to use Audiogon (a wider audience) or try your luck here at AudioCircle for free. Pictures are an absolute necessity when selling used loudspeakers, folks won't touch a blind product. Good luck.  :thumb:

edit: being that CES is fastly approaching, I don't know how accessible Brian is so you might want to try John Casler if Brian doesn't answer.

Cheers,

First congratualtions on your inheritance, and WELCOME to the VMPS Circle!

The GOOD NEWS is that these are remarkable speakers and Brian is still supporting most of the older speakers he has built.

The BAD NEWS is that they are of high worth only to a specialized market (who appreciate) them.

There is no real Blue Book or worth (other than recent sales) and for the most part depending on their condition it is a task of finding the right buyer who is willing to "pick them up" or pay for their packing and transport.

You might also consider a local marketing strategy like a local/regional Craig's List as well.  Posting where you live might be helpful.

And I would certainly list them in the AudioCircle Classifieds.

Too bad you can't find a good use for them.

Seen a few pair of Super Tower-R's go for around $500 ish on Craigslist over the past year or two. There was a pair of Supertower III (non ribon) that went for $1,250 about six months back...
