Rolling my own speaker wires for use with Icon
« on: 18 Jan 2010, 07:59 pm »
Hi. I am wanting to roll my own speakerwires to terminate in a banana plug and am having difficulty with two things.

1) Photos showing how to go about it

2) A suggestion as to what/how to strip wires so stinkin' tiny to expose as necessary for a good connection

Hope that make sense. Thanks!

The spec on this page http://www.nuforce.com/hp/products/icon/index.php  should provide enough information. A photo wouldn't show anything better since it is hard to show in a photo all those 8 wires with mixed colors.
Be very careful because if you mixed up the wires, that will short the speaker terminals and kill the amp.

I have a friend with a small gap in his teeth. He bites down on the wire and gets a perfect strip each time. :D

This works great, and cheap:

Easy - get a wire stripper with a stop screw which you set for the gauge of cable you are using. Set to the right gauge and you'll always get a clean, accurate cut. They don't have to be expensive - I bought mine at Radio Shack.

Thanks, all! Exactly what I needed. I think I will skip trying to use my teeth, however and go for the actual wire strippers
