What is the longest lasting power tube?

Out of all the power tubes you have used- what has served you the best? I'm not looking at any specific brand or type-  what's been good for you? I'll include rectifier tubes as well.

Keep in mind how your tube amp is set up: Does it have good air circulation? Are the tubes biased hot or not?

The 6AS7G output tubes that are used in Atma-Sphere amps are good for 10,000+ hours.

Mine don't have quite that many hours, but they are rock solid and I expect them to stay that way.

I would think that would be according to many variables. Some amps by design has a higher bias setting than some amps. Environment, What kind of climate you live in. I live in the mountains of Arizona where it gets hot in summer and cold in winter. I have no air conditioning. Therefore I have a winter system (tubes) and a summer system (SS). And as you said allowance for adaquite ventalation...... 8)

Like AudioSoul I think it depends on many things. Amp design is high on my list. Consider how many Dynaco St-70 amps are still found with the original Mullard EL34 tubes playing sweet music. Not to meantion those GZ34 Mullards even with big voltage swings. :thumb:

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Iam surprised no one know the exect amout of hour his tubes last.
In the 90 years a late friend had a Dynaco ST70 driving a JBL L90 which one or more EL34 last just six month, he used it on his CD shop.
