  open baffle shoot-out 2010.  Linkwitz Orion++ vs. GR-Research Super V. vs. Salk Sound Archos.    just thought this would be an interesting match up if someone could pull it together.

How about adding a pair of Hawthorne Audio Sterling Trios to the mix to make things even more interesting???

A fine idea, but it wouldn't be a fair fight; the Orions are inherently superior by virtue of being active. There are too many things an active speaker does correctly that a passive system cannot hope to do.

Is anyone running the GRs active, say with a Marchand electronic crossover?

Best,

Kristian

I use an electronic crossover with my Hawthorne Trios and a separate amp to drive the four Augie bass drivers.  The crossover from cone to compression driver for the Sterling Iris full-range is of superior quality - Mundorf SIO, Solen copper foil coils and a Mundorf resistor.  I am also doing a passive high pass to that driver @ 110Hz that is accomplished with one Vishay nude resistor and one Mundorff SIO cap. The resulting sound speaks for itself.
