which speakers for my room?
« on: 14 Nov 2009, 03:56 am »
I'm looking to upgrade my speakers (KEF iQ series), and it seems like there are quite a few good options from GR Research.  I'm in the process of buying a new house, and it has an open floor plan.  The room I'll put the speakers in is roughly 16 x 16 x 9 with one side open to the rest of the house.  Can I make LS6's work in this room, or should I be considering OB7's or N3's?  They will be for 70% movies/30% music.  It isn't a dedicated room, so there will be some WAF limitations on what I can do for accoustic treatments.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

They should all be able to work reasonably well and provide excellent, full sound.  Having said that, the LS6's are just something special.  :thumb:

You might want to consider one of the "V" series of speakers - there are three.  They aren't on Danny's web site but if you look through the threads in this circle you will find them.  Basically, there is a small version that is more reasonable and has a better WAF (the V2), a bigger version that is less expensive and not "all-out" (the V1), and an "all-out" version (the Super V).  I would suspect one of these is the best to go with as long as you can position them a little away from the walls (I think 3 feet is what is called for).  I'm very far from an expert but I think the nice thing about them for dual HT and music duty is that they have subs built-in so you won't have to place separate subs in the room (adding to the WAF and convenience).
