balanced "pot in box" with eq or tone controls??
« on: 27 Aug 2009, 08:52 pm »
built into an RM 200 base which would act as a "stand" for an RM200 amp ... this would keep a clean look and a VERY short run of IC's ... can it be done???

this is in keeping with my original RM200 line of questioning.

thx

let me try again ... take one of MR's "pot in a box" ideas, use an RM200 chassis for the "pot in a box" enclosure.  add true XLR-inputs and XLR-output to match with the RM200 XLR-in fully balanced design.  Add the tone controls that had been available on the C4 preamp.

the "pot in the box" would then be a perfect size match to the RM200 and could be placed directly underneath the RM200 (no shelf between) - essentially a stand for the RM200.  hopefully this makes sense - makes sense to me but I wrote it.

Got it!  That'd be a sweet looking setup.  If Roger'd sell you a chassis (I guess you'd really only need the wood border yes?) the only trick would be this; Since the wood border is curvy, you'd have to recess holes into it for the knobs.  Are you equiped to do that?  And can you have a balanced in/out PASSIVE preamp?  I've never heard of such a thing.  Great idea.  Let us know how it works out.

I have zero talent in the wood working department so I would have to pay someone else to do the "construction".  There are a number of manufacturers that offer balanced passive linestages (Placette, Bent, Reference Line, etc) with or without remote control.  would make for a very cool project IMHO!
