A good way to clean tube/valve pins is Magic Eraser. Shove the pins down into the cleaning pad over and over. Give it a twist. I used a jewelers loupe to look at the job it did and the pins were shining when I finished.

They do a great job cleaning crusty stuff off diamond stylus as well.

With this hobby ME seems like a no brainer.  I use it for dozens on things.  Great post by the way.  I have been using 1200 grit wet dry sandpaper.  I think ME would be much gentler on the tungsten or nickle pins.
