Remotes

Looking for some good remote options.

My ideal:  touch screen, Bluetooth connectivity (never have used any Bluetooth device before, but I would like this option so I don't take up another USB port. . .can go USB if need be.  Unless I can connect via WiFi directly to my PC????).  Something that would just be a mini-version of iTunes on the remote would be perfect-o.  Would an iPod touch have such capability?  If not, anything else fit the bill?

Budget would be about $200.

Thanks!

Can't help much as I'm old school. I still prefer to have 12 remotes within arms reach.
But I've perused a real cool site called 'RemoteCentral.com'.
They've got a "thing" that you type in your preferences, including price range, features, etc... and it will give you a list of the remotes that fit your criteria.

PJchappy,

If you are using itunes (PC or mac) all you need is an iPod touch. Find one used on craigslist.

In response to another thread about speed of the remote on the wireless network, I made this quick vid:
Touch Demo Video

probably a bunch of other videos on iphone/ipod touch on youtube.

That's just what I'm looking for!  Thanks!

Next problem. . .I'm trying to figure out how to convert WAV files to Apple Lossless.  I have the component (in the right folder) for Foobar that is supposed to work, but I don't see the option when I try to convert.  Ideas on that one?

Are you using a PC or an Apple?  I'm wondering if their would be any connectivity issues.

I am on an apple. haven't really seen any issues for the Remote app with Windows--but honestly haven't been looking. A quick google should uncover issues.

Within iTunes itself you can easily convert an album from WAV format to Apple Lossless.  Once the WAVs are loaded in the iTunes library, you choose Apple Lossless as you importing encoding type in iTunes Preferences. Then from the Music library view (normal player) highlight select all the songs of an album and choose Advanced > Convert to Apple Lossless (or other encoder). Easy. And fairly quick.

There may be some third party batch processor out there for Windows, but Im unaware.

I understand iTunes can make that conversion.  Should have made that clear.  The batch processor is what I'm looking for.  If I can get Foobar's conversion to work right, it converts the files to the source folder, which makes things easy. . . especially for my next step, tagging the files/albums.

dbPoweramp batch converter will do it. PC only.   But wav has no metadata, so if you want tags you'll have to edit the new tracks manually. Probably faster to rip the CDs again using a good online database (like those available in dbpoweramp)

I'll check out that software.

I have a mass tagger that takes about 30-seconds to tag the songs for a CD, so it shouldn't take too long to go through and re-tag them. The fact that WAV files have no metadata is the only reason I am going to make a copy of the files in a taggable format.

Yes, DBPoweramp's batch converter is all you need.  Make sure, after installing the freeware/trial version, that you go and get the Apple Lossless encoder (it's not included in the install, only a few are) at their site.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm

Very simple process.  The paid version does conversions on multiple cpu's if you have dual core processors, etc.  It also allows you to create new folders for the new format files (or, with the free one, just go in to each original folder and sort on format and delete the wav files).
