Riedon resistors...anyone ever use?

Might be the new high price leader  :nono: Not sure how I ran into these but they are high precision resistors, .01% dealies.

Digi-key had a few of them...they are a minimum of $18 a piece.  :nono:

Just curious if anyone has ever seen them used in audio.

I've played around with them a bit.  They are really well made, perhaps a good alternative for those who want to eke out every last ounce of performance from an already exceptionally well designed piece of gear.

Are we talking naked vishay levels of precision or better (worse?).

I cannot imagine ever owning something that would need these but they do seem like a good idea for signal path resistors in tube gear (if you are looking for non-coloration from resistors).

Do they sound sterile? It almost seems anything with a precision >1% is almost too clean and precise.

Very precise tolerances, incredibly well made.  I haven't directly compared them to the nude Vishay's, so not sure how different, or similar, they are.

I have quite a few Riedon's somewhere at the shop, not sure what values, I'll have to find them and check them out again.

At .01% they would be overkill for even a concertina splitter for which I spec 0.1%. I did not look at the prices but I will take a wild guess that I can buy probably 100 "ordinary" metal film resistors and get lots of matched sets for less $.

OK, I've tried them in two similar pieces of gear, a customer's 2008 Valab/Teradak NOS DAC and my 2009 Teradak NOS DAC and have been impressed enough to post about them here.

I used 350ohm .6w in the I/V section, replacing the stock Dale's that were in there.

If anyone is as crazy as I am and is willing to spend $18.50/each plus shipping for these things, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Peace,

Lee
