Romex?
« on: 20 Apr 2009, 12:24 am »
Hi we will be building our home this summer and I will be able to install dedicated lines to my av room.
Question that I had was upgrading the wire from the panel to the av room only. My search only came up with a Cardas in wall product but at $12 a foot that could be silly expensive.

Are their any good high quality romex options just for runs to av room? Thanks

I'd say go with regular 10 or 12 AWG Romex. You can get cryoed romex from VH Audio, if you prefer.

VH Audio sells cryoed Romex at $2.99 a ft. and can be found here under AC Power.

Can anyone comment on results with cryo Romex, worth the extra money? Thanks

Although I've never had the pleasure of auditioning cryoed romex, I couldn't imagine spending 3X the price over non-treated for it to wire my room. Unless I had money to burn on the project and a very high dollar setup, I'd go with a dedicated run with standard 12 ga NMD90. (Romex)

If you choose to go with regular 'romex', and the run is over 50ft. make sure and use 10Ga.
Its a little harder to terminate, but the extra guage makes a difference.
