Digital Cable for BDA-1
« on: 17 Apr 2009, 05:37 pm »
I just received my BDA-1 and I will be using it with my Squeezebox Duet.  I would like to know what coaxial digital cable others are using for this application or any recommendations based on similar experiences.

Hey Audio 1

How is the 14 sst/2 working out for you? I use the Atlas opus http://www.atlascables.com/index.php?id=231 in 1.5 mtr.
Steve Nugent (Empirical Audio), recommends the 1.5 mtr for length on the 75 ohm digital coax. There are tech reasons for it.
This digital coax is really nice and i have had a few diff types, like ultra link, kimber illum, harmonic tech and a few others.
Best one i've heard so far.

I am particularly interested in how what you think of the squeeze box also with the bda1.

Hi Werd,

The 14bsst-2 is working out very well.  It is simply an amazing amplifier that has an almost non-existent noise floor and superb sound quality.  The soundstage it creates is extraordinary and its ability to control the bass frequencies and present amazingly natural grain free treble is a real delight.  My speakers sound better than they ever have with the combination of electronics I currently own.

Thank you for the cable recommendation and I too am interested in the results with the Squeezebox paired to the BDA-1.  I do plan on sending in the Duet for one of the digital mods from Wayne at Bolder Cable co.  I will be curious to see how much of an effect the modification has on the sound quality.

Empirical Design's 118 digital coaxial cable is fantastic value! I switched from Stereovox XV2 to Karl's digital cables and won't look back!

I'm thinking of trying the Bryston Xlrs,Im using Cardas grcs(rcas)
of course my longest run is around 3 meters,so i don't know if they will have any effect.
Sonic wise everything sounds great, but I never tried balanced before, maybe I'll recieve a nice surprize ..

That would be interesting to try(AES-EBU)BCD-1 into BDA-1,+my BCD-1 analog outs to the BP-26.
Back to the audio sandbox,I wonder if a say,is a 2 meter to long for digital.
Here I was hoping my cable search was over.I think I'm going to try balanced and see.
And now there is BNC cable I'm assuming that would be for a sqeeze box or I-pod ,correct.

drummermitchell, The BDA just opens The Doors, It's amazing ....if It's Kenny G or Emmylou Harris. The BCD-1 and BDA-1 combo is Great.
The Way it just Places the Instruments. I'm running 1 4Bsst2 to the Left Speaker and 1 4Bsst2 to The Right Speaker in Stereo.
The BDA just adds it's Touch. Try It

Denjo,
Please tell me more - I have the Stereovox XV2 digital cable.
How much better is the empirical design - what differences did you notice?

James - have you used this digital cable too?

Thanks!

I normally dont participate in cable "discussions" but I have used the Stereovox XV2 for 3 years now. I havent done an A-B test, because I am pretty confident I wouldnt hear a difference from a 2 dollar "shoe string" rca cable....
