Just had a session with the wife involving powercords.
System: Rotel CD>VAC pre>DAC Cherry (classD, massive linear transformer) amp>SPTech Mini speakers. Music: Fagan's "Morph the Cat" on burned gold CD.
A week ago I was absolutely floored by the difference I heard between a Black Sand Silver Ref MKV (W/ Oyaide 004s) and "stock" 14 ga powercord. I'm a cable believer but would never have expected the amount of difference I heard. After being without power for more than 3 days

I was eager to get Sharen's ears in to check this out.
She did not know what I was switching, just that I'd bend over the system for about 10 seconds between listenings.
Her impressions: She assumed that I was switching between sources or amps (since the DAC amp was sitting on a Sunfire), the difference was so profound. She heard much greater separation between the instruments and a lack of a homogenized, non-descript haze that was present with the stock cord. She also commented that the decay on the triangle sounded mangled w/ the stocker (

She does NOT read any audio reviews and came to this seemingly tweako audiophile characterization on her own!!). Add to this her unsolicited comments about the quiter background... sheesh she's good...
Then I told her I was switching powercords but she misunderstood and thought I was changing interconnects - She was all like "Arrrgh, I hate you, I can't beleive there is this much difference in an interconnect..." No, honey, this was the powercord - The thing the music doesn't even go through - The 6' of wire between the power co. and the gobs of wire in the amp.
Ok Ok, "there must be something wrong with the amp..." "There must be something wrong with your power ..." Whatever.
It happened, although I am told that this experience does not in and of itself give me permission to purchase additional cords!! :lol
