SP Tech At Chicago Audio Society June 22nd 2008

Friends,

I know it's short notice but if anybody is in the Chicago area this weekend you might be interested in stopping by the Chicago Audio Society meeting to hear our new Timepiece Minis.  Tim Shelton and my son Jason will be there to demo them for the Chicago group.  I would be there too except this old fart turns 50 on the same day. :(  My wife seems to think that's something that we should celebrate and going to a meeting composed of a bunch of audio nerds is not her idea of a good time.   Don't ask me why  - seems like it would be a blast to me - far better than being reminded of impending senility anyway .

So... if you can make it, Tim, Jason and the Chicago group would be glad to meet you.  For directions to the meeting location and other info, check here:  http://www.chicagoaudio.org/

Hope you can make it. :thumb:  Have a great weekend and...

Take care,
-Bob

Maybe they are still there, answering questions and writing orders.

Guys,

I had hoped Tim or Jason might have chimed in here to give you all an update - seeing I didn't attend the meeting.   But... until they do I guess I'll pass along what they told me.

Not a lot to say though... apparently they really liked the finish and style of the TP Minis mounted on the stands Tim made for them.  I guess most were pretty amazed regarding the amount of bass they produced too.  The room the Chicago group uses is fairly large and in comparison, the Minis are relatively small.  Most of you have already heard all of this before though from our other customers.

As far as the rest of the sound goes, I guess the group was fairly "stoic" in their response.  According to Tim and Jason, if you're any good at reading body language it wasn't hard to tell that they were all pretty impressed.  The one real evidence to that fact was that almost the whole group stayed right up to the end of the meeting.  Apparently they almost over-ran their allotted time because different members kept asking to have their favorite discs played and lost track of the time.  Rumor has it that at most meetings folks start leaving about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the way through.  Not this time though, so I guess they must have liked what they heard.

As you all can imagine, most hard-core audiophiles take a lot of pride in their systems and often find it difficult to accept that something else is better.  I may be wrong, but I suspect that may have been the reason for the relatively "tight-lipped" response.  Don't get me wrong, apparently they made some very positive comments along the way but according to Tim & Jason, there was sort of an "air" in the room wherein it seemed folks were holding back.  Had they started leaving early I would have interpreted such a response as being "polite" so as not to offend us, but they're having hung around right to the end seems to indicate otherwise.  :green:

But what do I know?  I wasn't there. :dunno:  Just take the above for what its worth.  Have a great weekend guys!  :D

As far as the rest of the sound goes, I guess the group was fairly "stoic" in their response.

Audio has become like a poker game.  4 years ago before I moved across the country, I put my speakers with the rest of my system up for sale in separate ads.  A guy calls specifically about my speakers.  I told him the whole thing is available but he maintained he was only interested in the speakers.

He shows up at my place wearing dark sunglasses.  After a brief intro I sit him in “the chair” a play a killer cut.  No response.  Nothing.  So I play a few more cuts that really highlight the strengths of the system and pontificate a little about what he should be hearing.  For more auditory focus I suggest he try istening with his eyes closed.

I play a few more songs.  Still nothing.  The guy is mute.  After a few more tracks I ask him, “So, what do you think?”  He says nothing and the room is dead quiet.  After what seemed like an eternity, but only 6 or 7 seconds in reality, he finally breaks the silence and asks how much for the works and then writes a check for the system, including the stand, SPL meter and a big box full of tubes.

Good or bad, he didn't verbalize one thought or comment on what he heard.  I'm guessing it must have been alright, unless he was just doing me a favor. :?
