Sound differences between the X-mtm's and X-ls's.

Hi Danny,

hope it's ok to ask over here, figured you would know better than anyone. What are the differences between the x-mtm's and x-ls's supposed to be, other than the obvious bass and higher sensitivity. I recently got a pair of both, and they sound really different. The ls's tweeter sounds a db or two, too low, and the mtm's have too much top end, and are kind of hashy. The Ls's image better and are cleaner/clearer,fuller lower midrange, although they stage kind of deep (almost like pro logic II is turned on)? I haven't had a chance to talk with anyone at AV123 yet. They've been really busy, so I thought I would wait a little. The ls's have about 30-40 hours on them, the mtm's have about half that.

I'm ready for  my x-overs and parts too, after new Chrastmas or New Years maybe?  :hyper:

I suggest you let them both break in a little more. A good 100-150 hours each. You may be in for more wonderful, positive changes.

Best,
Anand.

You may also want to check into the Isotek CD Enhancer for breaking in those drivers as I'm sure this would help speed up the process. Highly recommended!
I know I will be using this burn-in tool once my LS9's arrive. Patiently waiting but the anticipation has me salivating

Letting them both burn in for a while is a good idea. I would do that before making any decisions about tweaking them.

There were a few QC issues with the original tweeter in that output levels could be off a little one way or another.

After they have burned in for a good 100 hours or more and the X-LS still seems a little down in the top end then you can decrease the resistor value in line with the tweeter and bring it up a little.

If the X-MTM still sounds a little hot then you can add a resistor in line with the tweeter (at the front of the network) to knock it down a little.

I'll walk you through it when the time comes if you want to make some adjustments.

yeah, I'll let them burn for a while, they're just completely different sounding, both off in their own ways. I'll probably upgrade them a little after a while. I was also talking about my OB7 x-overs and xbl woofers and parts. :hyper:
