Hey Danny & Audiophiles.
I have been looking for a new ht package. Right now I have m&k s150's. I know m&k is coming back but I wouldn't mind giving something else a chance.
I have looked and even owned some of the rocket line at av123.

My only concerns with them are:

1. No Matching FL, FR & Center.

 2. They have no matching Surrounds. You could say the 250 could be used as a surround, but it was never really made for that. It is rear ported, & it is designed to go too low imho. The rss 300 does not have matching tweeters either. I heard that was due to cost on the vifa, so you have guys spending thousands, but they won’t pay more for a matching surround?

3. No in ceiling options for surround backs or column surrounds.
The 3rd point I could let slide if the first two were taken care of. Column surrounds like the m&ks seem like a quick fix.

I was really getting "sold" on the RBH T-2’ speakers basically for two reasons. The reviews are all great & they have a complete line of speakers with matching drivers. I could use there bookshelf speakers for surrounds or dipoles & use in ceiling for my 6 & 7th.

I then found this quote from you responding to another guys question on the rbh speakers I was planning on getting:
Quote
My next thought is something like a modular mini line array.  I was thinking bottom module for each side with 2 12" subs, and top module with a mini array.  And then, just this morning I came across this:

http://www.rbhsound.com/t2.shtml

That speaker is actually a mess. The multiple tweeters spaced that far apart will just cancel each other out all over the place. The response will look like a roller coaster."

Danny

Based on the premise that we do want matching drivers in all speakers; Do you have any recommendations?
I could step down in the rbh line & use the speakers that do not have the problem above or I can wait for new products from you and av123. For the record I love Mark, his products and his business model.

Does av123 plans on making A new rocket line with matching surrounds in bookshelf & dipole configuration or do they plan on making new column surround that can be used as surround backs-like the old m&k column surrounds?
Will the LS line have a matching center, surround, and surround backs?

I always wondered why they never turned their big foot center into a fl & fr with a powered woofer base, Like the RBH T-2’s.

I am a beta tester (purchaser) for the new & upcoming RSL II’s, but from what I understand those will be two channel only.

Thanks for your time.

You will never get what you are after unless you have the exact same speaker for each channel. The LS center isn't going to be exactly like the LS's either (my guess anyway).

Personally, I think you are putting too much emphasis on having each speaker be, or very nearly be, the same. But I'm sure there are others that agree with you, just as there are others who agree with me. I'm sure Danny will post soon and give you much better info.

If I am doing something like the rbh I would go up to about 10-12K for fronts and center (used or on sale). around 15k total give or take a few.

I may be putting to much emphasis on it, but that is why I asked. I appreciate your help & opinion.
I do think making an effort to match tweeters for surrounds is important, & I have always had matching fronts with surrounds that had matching drivers. I do think the seamless transitions is due to this.

On the RBH thing. Any time you have multiple tweeters will have sever cancellation taking place between them. There is just no getting around it.

If you read this thread about stacking speakers I posted some data showing the effects of multiple tweeters: http://av123forum.com/showthread.php?t=15154&page=2

I have a couple of different options I can offer you.

1) I have a series of kits geared towards what you are asking for if DIY is something that you might consider. Our OB series are especially good.

2) You should consider the X-Statik and X-Voce combo from AV123 for left, right and center channels. They also have matching omni's for rear surrounds.

I am not a big fan of dipole surrounds as they tend to scatter the signal into out of phase segments, throwing part of the signal forward, and part of the signal to the rear. From nowhere in the room can you actually get a response that resembles the original signal that was sent to them.

The omni designs will give you a large non-localized sound field but still maintain the accuracy and integrity of the original signal.
