Speaker Spikes
« on: 7 Jul 2007, 11:11 pm »
Hello all -I may try to get my subs off the floor and up on spikes
The floor is a concreet slab with carpet
The Screws on the feet are 1/4-20 thread type
can anyone suggest any spiles with this thread and if they think this would be better than the sub just sitting on the floor
 Thanks

Try Michael Percy Audio.  http://www.percyaudio.com/Catalog.pdf , bottom of p. 18.  $5 per 4 spikes.  Here's a pic of the larger ones.

Oregondv.com has a nice selection of brass speakers spikes with the thread size you need:

The sound should really benefit from the sub being mass coupled to the floor. Expect to hear better defined and focused bass.
I just now ordered some of the 2.15" spikes for my Hsu sub.

I put my two subs up on audiopoints [1/4-20 thread for what that's worth] and the improvement was not only immediately easily audible, but also dramatically measureable.  FWIW, my subs weight more than 100 lbs each, and prior to the spikes, the whole cabinet would shake/move on the carpeted floor.  Not so anymore which is likely why there was such a huge improvement.
