Ultimate Imod tweak. You thought it couldn't get better...

I have a few of these Mapleshade pointed weights lying around.   This completely transforms the Imod.  It costs $22 + shipping.

I have these little things in my system & have a few extra after going OB.  aa    I'm placing it right on the face & it hasn't made a mark after 2 nights of play.  Don't store the points on the face though...  Do not turn it on its back either..

this tweak has a much larger impact than any cable swap, assuming you have a decent cable already...

All i'm after is sublime performance from my gear, nothing more, nothing less.   Of all my tweaks, this is #1.  I've been playing with Mapleshade tweaks a while, never ran into a change like this though.

Like a duck to water...

The deal is that when Imod is playing, or any Ipod for that matter, it is vibrating.   Normally these vibes have nowhere to go & muck up the sound.  Now, there is a solution.

this is crazy guys, Mapleshade has a 30 day trial, it'll take you 30 seconds to hear the improvement, its instant.

YMMY only because of the 4" air dried maple platform the Imod sits on...so does my TT.  this has a lot to do with Imod sounding good & my impressions of it...but this little weight completes the picture in a way i didn't think possible.

If you're an Imod owner who just wishes their HD transfers sounded better?  I mean its easy to tell the Imod is quality, but do you want better still?   try this, its wild as hell.

I think its taking internal vibes & draining them better into the maple platform...  the result is a change i've never experienced, its as if the files are now Master Tapes.

Long before I had my 'pod modded it became apparent that the surface it touches dictates the tone, in many ways..   an accidental butcher block encounter 3 yrs ago led to this.

Here it is, Imod nirvana.   Its a top-to-bottm transformation, not a slight improvement by any means.  You have not heard your tracks or just what Vinnie is capable of...  this is not one of those "wow, the bass is great now" changes.

If you set your Imod on MDF or glass, please place an empty album cover or 10 sheets of copy paper in between.  i've found both to be a decent subistute for good wood.

no affiliations, just cuttin' it up a bit...      :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

this will not work with mapleshade's flat weights & won't work with their large weight either!  TRY THIS. its a doozey...

Interesting. I don't have an iMod but I wonder if one of Herbie's Audio Lab SuperSonic Stabilizers would have a similar effect. Info at: http://herbiesaudiolab.home.att.net/stable.htm

aa    I thought that I was the only one who could hear a difference in sound depending on what surface the Imod was sitting on and what I put on top of it.
I have had good results (to my ear at least putting the Ipod between two Boston Audio Design tune blocks (sans the ball bearing)  I have also like the sound of the Imod sitting on a mapleshade 2" maple platform and a brass weight on top.
Let us have some fun and experiment and report the results.  The Imod, like any high quality component is sensitive to vibrations, and how you choose to deal with those vibrations can affect the sound.

Hey Guys,

Imod is so sensitive to the surface it touches, but my Ipod was too, in the exact same way...

You are not alone ZLS, i feel your pain.   aa

I have the Herbie's record puck which is the Sonic Stabilizer but with a hole for the spindle, its an amazing tool for this hobby.     Tonight when i get home i'll try it, but have to admit it probably won't do the same...  Now, as far as record pucks go there's probably none better than Herbie's when teamed up with the Way Excellent mat.

The sonic stabilizer is a funky damping tool.   The pointed Mapleshade weight is a vibration director, meaning it directs vibrations from one thing to another.   that's Mapleshade's theory anyways but it played out in several locations in my system 24/7 and has the past few years...so i'm sold.

the only thing to remember about this is that there are 3 sharp points right on the face of your Ipod/Imod.  You can't get silly and slide it across, it might scratch.   So far though, not even tiny dots are visible or can be felt.

take it away gang....

The 4" Mapleshade platform does do some wild things, especially with the weight on.  BUT, i do think this can be replicated without spending $250 on a chunk of wood...   :nono:
