Bryston and B&W
« on: 19 Feb 2007, 09:00 am »
Some of you may recall my recent post querying if Bryston gear and B&W match well. I was particularly concerned with the brightness that I was getting. I am happy to say that I have resolved the issue. I can report that the problem had nothing to do with either the Bryston or the B&W speakers. The system now sounds very nice to my ears.
So I can say that the post I saw in another forum saying that Bryston and B&W don't go together is incorrect.

how did you resolve the issue?

Changing the power cable on the CD player. The harshness was coming from upstream and being faithfully reproduced by the Bryston and B&W.

that would do it.   I have been using Virtual Dynamics power cables and they tend to be very smooth in the top end.  No harshness at all.

glad you resolved it.
thanks

It's amazing that some folks in Audiogon described both Bryston and B&W as unrefined and bright especially with B&W's metal dome tweeters. Good to hear that you've rectified the situation. I was a huge fan of B&W's having owned the N805 before switching to some PMC's.

both of the brands i.e. Bryston and B and W are revealing and usually the brightness is a short-coming of other equipment/ cables in the chain rather than the amp or the speaker.

they are neutral and give you exactly what is fed to them.   If you have something weak in the chain, they will tell you.   They don't gloss it over like some other products.
