Thanks

Hey guys,

I just spotted this one:
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=35254.msg319808#msg319808

The DeVore Super 8 is really amazing, and I've only heard the Super 9 prototype (awesome!) and I hear that the official version is even better!

The Max Hemp is also KILLER (especially with the new 8" Tone Tubby OEM hemp cone driver)!

They are both really excellent and I highly recommend them both, but they are different sounding speakers and I never had the chance to listen to both of them in the same room, with the same music, etc.

Best regards,

Vinnie

Thanks Vinnie

I am in New Zealand. I have heard the De Vore Gibbon Super 8 (in an awful room with gear I did not like) but I have a favourable impression. I have no chance to hear the Omega's here.

Certainly my reading says both are great speakers, and both are a very good match with RWA amps.

You say: "they are different sounding speakers".

Could you please describe the type of difference you hear.
The normal stuff we get in reviews would do.
I do understand you heard them at different times, in different set-ups, with different music etc.
I believe all speakers have a "signature" that the designer has sought to deliver.
I appreciate this may present some issues for you and that it can only be a general impression.
I will certainly not feel "dependent" upon you to make my decision.
That is surely my responsibility, regardless of what anyone says.

Many thanks
Eril

Hey Eril,
Where  did you listen to the  Devore super  8's?
There is a dealer in Auckland, with a pair on  demo.  You  could  borrow  my  sig  30  for a  day  and take it around to hear the combination!

Omegas would be a lot cheaper tho.

Hi Eril,

I'd say the Max Hemps wins when it comes to dynamics, and really shine with rock (they have that 'hemp tone' that I never heard any other speaker offer... it is something really special!).  The sound is so open and more alive.  You can really turn up the volume with these and they play very clean.  These offer BIG bang for the buck $$$

I'd say the DeVore Super 8s are smoother and more refined (but do NOT lack detail).  They'll need more power to really shine (they are less efficient), so no flea amps if you want to do them justice.  The Super 8s are a 2-way, but this is one speaker that doesn't sound like it has a crossover in there... you'll know when you listen that it was very well designed and seamless from top to bottom.  They sounded rich and well balanced the two times I heard them with the Sig 30 (and 70s).

I really like 'em both, but never had either in my home system, so it is so hard to comment much beyond that.  Without having either in my room for a few days to listen to and get familiar with (with all my albums that I know so well), I feel like I am probably not doing either any justice.   :duh:

FWIW, The Absolute Sound is in the process of reviewing the Omega Max Hemps.  The reviewer should be able to dig down deep and spill the ink on them.  It sounds like he really liked what he heard at RMAF.

As for the DeVore Super 8s, all the reviewers loved 'em.  They are hard not to love.

Hope this helps more than causes confusion
