Geeze, it was like pulling teeth! :green: But we finally got somewhere.
Again, just to clarify, I was not asking about the fuse in regards to the protection or to play my system louder but I am all for protection and being able to play it loud. I was asking because of all the wire questions, and yes, I have heavy 10 gauge wire from my 350 to my speakers of good quality and good sounding ICs and 2-AC power tweak units, and yes, I did put a 12 gauge power cord on my 350. Did I hear a difference? I can't answer that because when I did it, something came up and there was a long gap between listening, but I left it and I feel better knowing that there is 12 gauge wire all the way from my breaker box to my 350. I do like what all the tweaks have done to my sound. But after I blew a couple fuses, it made me just wonder about all that coming down to that little thin wire in the 1" fuse?
A lot of information is going through that little wire. I can tell you this, The sound does degrade just before it blows. Not surprising. I guess I will start off by trying some better fuses down the road and let you know. Kind of a sticky wicket!
Thanks for coming back Frank and to those who can read and those who supllied other good information and the web links.
Happy New Year  :guitar: :drums: :violin: :banana piano: :hyper:

Just assuming that there might be an audible difference in types of fuses, it stands to reason that those nasty clips holding the fuses might also have a part to play. I seem to recall a friend who was into this sort of thing used to replace them with a wire tag and solder the fuses at each end. By the by, those Maggies I mentioned are now 22 years old and the last time I asked they were still going strong, minus fuses. I know accidents happen but if you have decent equipment and are carefull it's not that easy to blow a fuse.

 OK here I go.....A couple months back I attended an audio club meeting where one of the clubs members held a fuse shootout, which the German fuses took the nod, once chosen they were bettered with the addition of silver contact grease.  Not to hijack the proceedings but my parents chandelier no longer strobes once warm since silver treating the bulb bases.  :duh: Here we go!

You can, of course, simply buy "pigtail" fuses.  These have wires on each end for hard soldering instead of clipping them into a holder. Of course then you have to disassemble and unsolder and resolder to replace fuses, not a lot of fun.

NO mockery Please! Rather than spend 50$ on a pair of fuses, I went the irrevocable route and got rid of them altogether: bi-passed with tiny pieces of silver solid core I had from another DIY project. So...I don't want to encourage anyone to go this way, especially if you have expensive gear. And yes, there is a noticable lowering of the noise floor. Is it worth it? Probably not, against the risk entailed, but in 35 years i've never had a fuse blow (fingers crossed against Muphey's Law).

:nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :nono: :duh: OK Homer Simpson Jr., do you also like work at the power plant?....You probably had oxidized fittings, and all you had to do it clean em, since you say you NOTICED a lowered noise floor.  We don't need no stinkin' fuses.

Of course, removing the fuses also removes the warranty.    :o

Actually they were not oxidized and this cdp has no warrenty anyway since it was a 2nd hand. I guess this is not a welcome topic so I will bow out and say no more. To each his own thing. Please notice that I did not recommend this.
