The 3:1 ratio seems about right to me... one for the front wave, one for the back wave and one for the port(s). Four of the EX fifteens in a manifold with the drivers opposed would rock just about anyones world. By popping the VC out of the gap, do you mean surpassing the Xmax? Sorry, I haven't heard that expression before. Part of the beauty of designing an infinite baffle sub is getting the right amount of power to each sub... too much power and you blow the sub... and not enough power causes the amp to clip. When you're dealing with extremes like this the best way to alleviate these things is to just buy more drivers ;)... and a bigger amp. The drivers and amps are less stressed, which lowers distortion and extends low frequency response. When it comes to IB's, there is definitely no replacement for displacement!

BTW, Kevin, when you express your caution, is that for fewer than say four of the EX fifteens?

No... I'd say for ANY IB setup your best with a HP filter.   I know a lot of people successfully go without but there is an exponential relationship between the amount of air movement necessary to create a 14Hz signal vs. a 20Hz one.    Without the box acting as a HP filter your drivers will TRY to recreate the 14Hz event.   The only thing holding them in place is a spider & surround and when you hit that large LF content the VC/former will launch right out over the front plate with the VC completely out of the gap.   Sometimes in these extreme overexcursion events it will hit the front plate on the way back down and that is the end of your driver.    Something like this is not covered by our warranty because doing it is like driving your car into a wall and expecting the manf. to fix it under warranty.

My main goal is to have happy customers (while paying the bills and feeding the kids) and customers who damage several hundreds of dollars worth of equipment without understanding why are not happy.   Thus the reason for my warning.

Not yet.... I'm not happy with what I'm seeing so we are moving to a softer spider.  The goal for the 12"s is to have them happy in 3ft^3 ported and < 3^ft3 sealed.
