Candela in the House

:singing: Well folks,my new Candela arrived safe and sound and was sitting on my doorstep when i got home from work today.my 11 year old daughter Courtney helped me open up the box and when i took it out of the box she said daddy that is the most beautiful thing that Klaus has ever sent you. it looks really nice so i decided it is time to hook it up to the mono extreme SEs.i hook her up and wait for the click from the delay and play a CD, nothing could have prepared me for how good this preamp sounded and the thing was not even warmed up yet. i let the Candela play and went out for a while to do some shopping. i came home and flipped the speaker cables because i just remembered that the Candela is phase inverting and put on the Who / Whos Next and man does it sound fantastic! i am sitting here listening to it as i type. i am going to wait until the weekend to give the sonicaps ample time to burn in before i post any more of my impressions of my new Candela preamplifier.thanks....WCW III

It took me two cuts from my forst cd to know that the Quicksilver would never be back in my downstairs system again. My tenor fell in place Sunday afternoon (somewhere around 30 hours), and confirmed it with a blast from Colman Hawkens yesterday. Not real sure I want to swap tubes right now as it sounds that good.
Have not hooked it up to the monos yet as I need some pretty longish IC's (another hint), and the system is all tubed right now except for the Marantz sacd player. Your gonna really like it next weekend; trust me!

well we got the full deal in the tenor sax right now. It's all there and in spades.
I don't know what else will improve, except maybe a little more presence with the acoustic upright bass. That's touchy as some discs sound right, right now.
I maybe at the limitation of my speakers right now. Think I'll be installing a set of Synergistic interconnects sometime in the next day or so. Right now I'm using a pair of MIT's. At the sametime I'll probably recable my sacd player as the cables are mid line Audioquest. Will probably use ZU here as my two other digital units seem to like them.

Living with the new Candela in my system has been a joy and a pleasure. very clean very fast and a wide open soundstage is the best way that i know how to describe it. in retrospect i thought my Balanced Audio Technology VK3i was clean and open sounding but in comparison to the Candela the VK3i seems somewhat dark and veiled and not nearly as fast. i talked to Alex G @ Odyssey and he said that the Mullard CV4003 12AU7's sound exquisite  in his Candela so i have ordered a pair of Mullard CV4003 12AU7's from Upscale Audio in California to roll into my Candela as well. i also want to try the Cryroed Ei elite 12AU7's once Odyssey takes delivery of them and i am able to obtain them. thanks....WCW III

Is there a website somewhere that has specs, pics and a price for this preamp?

Here's a place to start, with some nice pics.

I'm sure the Odyssey website will be updated before the 2008 elections - be sure to check back at least monthly...

I tried AC's search function and came up w/ a number of links, including the following:
Thread authored by Klaus entitled "Updates"

Thread authored by Klaus entitled "Price change on Candela October 1st."

As previously mentioned, there's other information. Klaus should be able to provide all you need. Try calling him in the evening - but don't bother w/e-mail!

I just got a pair of Mullard CV4003 12AU7's from Upscale Audio.the Mullards were delivered to my house yesterday and i rolled them into the Candela just before supper time. these NOS Tubes have a boxplate internal construction and are heavy duty valves that were designed and constructed by Mullard for use by the British Military. i ordered them in upscale's special C J grade which are the best of the best and both sets of triodes match exactly.i want to get at least a minimum of fifty hours of burn in on them before i do any critical listening. they sound very nice with the 20 + hours that i have on them. thanks....WCW III
