is there an adapter you can purchase in order to use spade connectors with the old push spring speaker terminals?

I think Wayne at Bolder Cable makes what you're looking for.  Go to his website, click on "System Accessories and Adaptors" on the left, and scroll down to the "Binding Post Adaptors for Spring Clip Amplifiers."

 thanks, looks like you might be able to get the parts at radio shack and make your own.
