diy mods for teac

Hi All, especially Vinnie

It seem to me that the teac is a thing of the past - with new clari-T coming up - but I'd like to post my question anyway.

I've got 2 of those TEACs t home now, and did the easy mods (removing the center board, removing the volume board.
I love the level of detail i get but I know there must be more (more precise bass and highs to be exact / I had the sonic impact running on an SLA before :) ).
[but it beat a sumo amp, a NAD, and a cheap tube amp all the same!]

I'd love to listen to the modded version but shipping the amp to and fro europe will simply be too expensive to do

s there anything else I can do :?:
- which one is the electrolytic to replace? the one on the amp board itself
- the main culprit will be the power supply. i was thinking of either getting a conventional external one - but it seems hard to find with these voltages...:?
- is there an external version of the battery supply (excluding the batteries) that can be sent by mail without breaking the bank?
-how much would the cap mod alone change? (did I hear oil caps)

one remark, I tried to run both amps in mono configuration (with the idea of putting less strain on the psu) but the sound did not really improve...
anyone tried this before?

so many questions....

thanks for your time and ideas

yours

How about wrapping "white" power cable to amp board in foil. This will block EMI somewhat.

Hi quantumfish,

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to document all the mods that I have done to the Teac and explain how to do them, nor how each of them sounds.

I recommend you post this on www.diyaudio.com

This is a DIYer site and I'm sure you'll meet folks who have DIYed their Teac (and hopefully can spend the time to guide you through the process).
There may be others who want to DIY mod their Teacs, so you can start a thread and all learn from each other.  That is what DIY is all about.

Also, if you search on the other circles here on audiocircle, I believe there might be some DIY info pertaining to the Teac as well.

Thanks for your understanding....

thanks everyone  for the quick response,
as i was asked about my volume pot mod, i thought i'd post it for everyone...

i dont have any pics but it is really easy if you know your basic soldering...

- remove the amp board
- remove the volume board (there is a description of the pins painted on the main board
- remove the main board
- turn it upside down and install two wires connecting the rca leads to the " "left/right out" pin
- after that the volume board is unnecessary
- put everething else back in place - and voila!

btw there is a picture at: http://www.tommytube.com/Teac-tripath/a_tour_inside_the_teac_a.htm

if you are not into soldering at all there might still be a way: get two computer jumper wires and simply jumper volume board connector "left in" to "left out" - and the same thing for the right channel - you dont even have to remove the main pcb for this.

hope this helps
