The original Apex had many issues with the design in the crossover as well as the cabinet was just way to small, both for the MTM as well as the 4 extremis.
What changed? The crossover is all brand new Tony was the fist to get them in his and Branko has them in the fancy finished Zerba veneer he has.
The crossover parts also changed from stock Solen caps and metal oxide resistors to full sonicap caps even the large value caps on the mid range that is a full stack of sonicap no electric caps no poly caps pure sonicap then this pile of caps is topped off with a platinum sonicap bypass cap.
Then each cap value in the Apex II and Apex C as well as HT8 all have Platinum bypass caps on every cap value.
This made the crossovers 100% fully loaded with no upgrade ever needed.
Why did we do this?
Well the Apex II,Apex C as well as the HT8 just warrent this quality of parts as well as detailed parts list.
Below is a photo of the parts that would have been used inthe original Apex.
THe large black cap is a 100uf Solen and that was the way we had priced them but the cost of the 100uf stack with sonicaps and a platinum bypass caps is well over 8 times the cost for the same value.
Does the sound warrent this change yes it does and that is why we changed the crossover as well as the cabinet in the Apex II.
If you look at the Adire site
http://www.adireaudio.com/Home/KITApex.htmYou will see the cabinet plan is not the same size as our new Apex II.The mid compartment is almost 3 times larger as well as the woofer compartments as well as now at .8cft each.
Back to the cost well the parts in the new Apex II are over 7 times the cost of the crossover parts of the original crossver design in both price and performance.
And considering what the Apex II can do for the price point is well worth ever penny and more.
Hope this explains this in detail for you.
