Apple Hi-Fi review at:

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/ipod-speakers.ars/1

"The Apple Hi-Fi unit is rated at 53Hz to 16kHz and in the low end, our tests showed that the low end crosses the 0dB mark at somewhere around the 45Hz line. This is a positive thing for Apple. It means that according our test results, Apple understated the iPod Hi-Fi's low-end response."

Gag me.  Please.

This one made me laugh:

Quote
Cons

    * Subwoofer big and heavy and made out of MDF

Its referring to the Klipsch iFi system and I'm sure they would have preferred it to be made out of 2mm plastic instead.

F-kin idiots. How would they feel I did a review on a graphics card and said it had pretty colours... I'd look like a right tit and this is exactly what they've done with this naff speaker roundup.

Perhaps they accidentally dropped the e from their name, and the proper spelling is:

ARSE TECHNICA...

Thankfully, it's a computer hardware review site and not an audio hardware review site. From what I can tell, the reviewer probably has a good deal of experience with computer speakers, but not with anything you and I would have in our main systems.

So it is what it is.

I'm sure I would sound like an idiot, too, if I started reviewing cigars or wines which I know very little about: I'd know which one tasted better than another, but I wouldn't enough about the nuances to be taken seriously by a real cigar or wine aficionado.

I doubt that it's anything special, but I wonder how that iPod HiFi unit would fare if reviewed by a site like 6moons or enjoythemusic. I expect it would fall in about the same performance range as the Cambridge SoundWorks (Kloss) Model 88 or similar. But I can't say since I haven't heard it.

Best,
KT
