Truetone Radio speaker replacement? Help, please.

My neighbor gave me a Truetone solid state hifi with phono, radio, tape input, and external speaker outputs. It is a full sized cabinet with 3 way speakers. 5' wide by 3' tall by 2.5' deep. Marble tops over the speakers, mahogany, flip-up center to reveal the phono and receiver controls. It is in immaculate condition.

Three of the six speakers are working. What can I do to replace them?

two 3.5" paper tweeters part number 12A0629-001
two 5" paper mids part number 12A0593-000
two 8" paper basses part number 12A0570-000

The model number of the "TRUETONE Stereophonic High Fidelity" is WEG5839C-86

40 watts

From what I can see, the speakers are all connected in series with a 6db LP slope added to the bass driver with a single capacitor.

Ummmmm! TrUe Tone!

You'll be hard pressed to find a Western Auto store still stocking those parts, Mike.

If yer serious about listening to this, I'd try replacing all speakers in matching pairs, rather than just sub in on one side.
But that's just me.

If you decide to make it a centerpiece of a room, I'll make you a great deal on a Truetone guitar I got here...

That'll teach me to post after cutting the grass and having the requisite...

It just makes me a sassy-ass.

Yup. No Western Autos around for nearly a decade now. If I can find a source of these speakers, I'll replace all of them. Then I'll embark on a journey of upraging parts. You know: cardas rca jack, silver plated copper wire, black gates out the wazoo, jensen bypass caps everywhere including the hinges, etc.

I may just have to put completely different drivers in all together. That would be fun too. I'll call Jim Theil. He'll hook me up.

Hiya Mike,

I've got two tweets and two mids out of a Fischer that should work just fine. The woofs I've got are 12's so their probably a bit big for your cabinet. You are welcome to the mids and tweets, I was (eventually) going to toss them anyway.

SCOTT, YOU ROCK!!!

I'll give you my Miles Davis and Gil Evans Colaboration CD set for them.

IF I can find my cd set. I have them all on vinyl, so don't feel bad. Miles Ahead is the album that inspired me to become a musician in the first place. You will love them almost as much as I'll love the new stereo in my reading room.

Problem solved without having to touch the speakers.

The capacitors were dead. I'll just replace them and be up and running.

Do you dare me to replace the caps with Jupiter Caps or maybe Duelunds?

Just kidding, I'll settle for copper foil Jensens.

Scott, I won't need the speakers, but I'll still bring you my Miles/Gil Evans set to borrow as long as you like.

I think you ought to use the Teflon V-Caps

Okay. Now the right channel 5" driver doesn't work right? The sound is distorted and thin. Blown driver/drivers?

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot? The RCA connections are all good and the cable is good. The speaker connections are good. The replacement caps are good. The cap connections are good.

....distorted....thin... sounds like its blown. I'll bring the tweeters too just in case
