C-Series - what's new ?

Can James or anyone advise me the real difference between the C-Series and the non C-Series SST amps, besides the very pretty face plate?

I addition to cosmetic change, the C-series are not rack mountable.

The C-Series is the same as the Consumer versions of the SST Series other than cosmetics.

Maybe I can ask this here. An admittedly esoteric question.

I have a 7.1 setup, and I've always gone with a 2 ch amp plus a 5 ch amp. Obviously, then I only need to power the 2 ch amp when listening to CDs, lps, etc.

I stack the amps (yes, with spacers in between for air flow.

). But I also stack an AC balanced power box on top.

OK, so I've always looked at the 3B-SST and the 9B-SST. But the 3B-SST isn't deep enough for me to put the balanced power unit on top. (It has to go on top, because it's a little narrower than the amps. Wouldn't look right if it was on the bottom.)

Ahhh, but now there is the 2B-SST C, which *does* have the depth I'd need.

... But I want the greater power of the 3B-SST. Any chance they'll ever be a deeper version of the 3B-SST?

Hey Kevin,

Not to sound like as smart a$$, but they do make a deeper version,
It's called the 4Bsst.

I was at my local dealer just this week and he was mentioning how the 4B is the
most popular model he sells.

The reason he gave was price point:

3B = approx. $3,000 cnd
4B = approx. $3,700 cnd
7B/14B = approx. &7,200 cnd

To me and my dealer, it seems like a no brainer to spend the extra $700 and get
the 4B over the 3B.

Unless someone is very tight for space and wants a smaller foot print (the opposite
to you), the 4B would be the way to go?

In my mind, the 4B-SST doesn't "match" well with the 9B-SST for a 7 ch system. 300W/ch vs 125W/ch or so.

I actually did have a 5B-ST and an 8B-ST for a while, but I wanted a 2+5 combo and not a 3+4 combo. But I did like that combo.

That's why I think it's curious that the lesser powered 2B-SST C is deeper than the 3B-SST. I'm betting I'm not the only one who wanted a deeper chassis.

I'm hoping for a 3B-SST C someday.
