I need some help with a notch filter for a pair of RTS-3 speakers.Stupid me, I bought them years ago based on a review and a great price. Dennis Murphy ( murphyblaster.com ) tested these speakers and they have a big rise in the mid bass. When I saw the review, I pulled them out of storage, connected them and sure enough , boom, boom.

I know very little about crossovers. What do I need to fix this and can it be easily attached? Thanks.

Richard

It really depends on whether the problem is related to the crossover or box tuning (or possibly both). If it's a lack of baffle step compensation then it should be easily fixed with a crossover modification.

Rick,

There is nothing I can do about the box tuning but what can I do with the crossover? There is a graph on Dennis's website. Thanks.

Looking at the measurement it's a box tuning problem. Is it a ported box? I also found a review noting that no bracing was used in the cabinet and the walls are only 5/8" thick. This would make things worse.

Probably the best thing to do is build new cabinets with the correct tuning and good contruction. With a speaker in this price range I don't think it would be worth the time and money to do that.

I wonder if the SD RTS-3 speaker is boomy, because only a minority of people say it is. Can it posibbly be your room. I have had the speakers for 5 years, in 2 different homes and they never been boomy.

Hi, you might like to try stuffing the port and see if that improves things - ?
