Pez

I have a question about yamaha 6 channel surround sound receivers.  Is it true that all the analog inputs are sent through a A/D/A converter? If so are there any positive merits within that process? :P

Hey Pez, why don`t you buy my Yamaha HTR-5490 6.1 digital A/V receiver for $450 and find out for yourself? I`ll even throw in a Signal Cable PC and the inner casing has been covered with Stillpoints ERS to clean up all that internal digital hash. What say you? Regards, Robin

I'm not 100% positive on this, but I believe that most recievers do an A/D/A conversion to adjust channel levels, crossover from "big" to "small" speakers, and use DSP modes like HALL, etc.  Usually you only get a straght analog passthrough unless you select the "direct" mode (which does not do bass adjustment).  And unless dcs is doing the conversion process, there are probably no sonic benefits from a purist standpoint.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.
