Question about JVC receivers
« on: 7 Jul 2005, 01:51 pm »
I know that Tripath amps cannot run subs with speaker level inputs, due to how they are wired.

Has anyone tried this with a JVC Hybrid Digital Feedback system?

ES-1?
F-10?
any of the small executive units?

I've checked my JVC F10, and indeed the negative speaker output terminals are not tied to the ground. Interestingly, I also checked my PartsExpress plate amp, and the negative (black) speaker-level input terminals are not directly tied to the ground but instead have a finite resistance (~1Kohm) to the ground. Perhaps that's why someone was able to connect the outputs of the JVC F10 to the speaker level inputs of a sub plate amp without shutting down the JVC. I guess the maker of the plate amp anticipated that some people will try to connect balanced amp outputs to the speaker-level inputs and designed the input circuitry to cope with that.

Looks like KCHANG answered my question months ago, in another post... guess I need to learn to use the Search function!

Now, I wonder how I can check if the negative terminals on MY plate sub amp are tied to ground, or are tied to a resistor like this Parts Express one mentioned here...

Hi mcgsxr:

I used a multimeter to measure the resistance between the ground portion of the RCA connector on the plate amp for line-level input and the black binding post for the negative lead of the speaker-level input.
