You might ask Don where you can get it serviced if/when the time comes. It is my understanding that Don is, at least, semi-retired. I’m sure he has a legacy plan for this stuff, but it’s good to know when you’re looking to drop a substantial amount of cash on a rather bespoke / boutique piece of gear.
Sound advice.  Thank you.  I hadn’t considered it in this case but service is one of the reasons for my interest in point to point.  Kara Chaffee, in a kind response to a question about her de Havilland Ultra Verve, said “they are pretty straightforward and accessible to repair.”

I had one of these (wood case/silver-colored faceplate) for years until about two years ago. I loved the L and R gain control dials. I only sold it because I had bought Don’s newest model, and because my wife was beginning to complain that I had too much gear. I really loved that preamp.

I am the one who bought it off Michael 2 years ago. Very happy with it. I have it feeding a Nilai Class D amplifier.
That is a decent price for a DS2. Don's latest version sells for $6,300:

AllanS.  You should also look  here-

I think this is based off a DS design.  You can buy a kit or fully built.  I almost pulled the Trigger on their ST120 amp and SP14 preamp.  I was going to buy their phono preamp until I found a Gold Note.

You can order one with upgraded caps like Mundorf and Jupiter.  Same for resistors.

I had it on the long list but I ended up buying a really nice integrated that I’d wanted Wink2 so the tube pre is on hold until I sell off some of the more recent poor decisions I’ve made.

Yeah.  I’m actually a bit surprised it’s still available.

Allan, how are you liking the Ruby?   I miss its great tone and midrange.

I’d call it a love, love relationship developing.  Scratching an itch can sometimes lead to disappointment.  This is not one of those.  It sounds fabulous.

I am glad you are loving the KI Ruby.
I sort of regret selling it as the Marantz PM10 d I d not work out for me. I have a Mark Levinson integrated amp the 5805 coming the end of the week.  If this does not work out then I will change speakers or get a nice integrated tube amp like the Black Ice F35 fully loaded.
