Subs for LRS+
« on: 28 Jun 2025, 09:14 pm »
I have been doing a lot of research on subwoofers to go with my LRS+ since I have never used subs before.  So far the VPE Model 1 seems like the best option.  Thanks to @josh358 for mentioning this speaker in the previous message I posted, since I had not heard of this company before.

The VPE Model 1 seems like it would work well with my taste in music (I like hearing a realistic string bass in a jazz combo rather than 'chest thumping' sound).  Also, I don't have much floor space and having the sub fit under and behind the LRS+ would be a real benefit.  But I am still open to other options.

A couple of questions:

1) Has anyone used the VPE Model 1 with the LRS+ or LRS?  I’d appreciate any info about your experiences.
2) Specifically, I am leaning toward connecting the subs by splitting the interconnects that come from my preamp (using XLR Y adapters) rather than connecting those interconnects into the subwoofer amp and then going out to the main power amp.  I’m sure the Y adapters don’t do anything good to sound quality, but this still might be better than filtering the high-pass signal through the Model 1’s amps.  But I could be wrong about this and would appreciate advice.

I own Magnepan 1.6 and use dual sealed Martin Logan subs. Get a good sealed sub or a servo subs like a Rythmik.   If you like to feel a thump in your chest, then skip the Rythmik.   My son has one.  It is musical and fast but it does not pressurize the room like other subs.

Definitely do stereo with 2 subs.
