Last week, I took a total shot in the dark and bought a pair of Magnepan LRS+. I haven’t heard Maggie’s in 20 years, but I was certain I wouldn’t be disappointed so I got them with the intent to upgrade them immediately. I have to say, the stock speaker sounds pretty good considering the price. I don’t think anything can touch it for under $1k. For the upgrade, I knew right away that I wanted to do an external box which will give me the flexibility to mess around with them in the future. Inspired by the 3D printed crossover boards that CSS provides with their kits, I decided to design my own for the Maggie’s along with a box with a sliding removable top. Here is what I’ve done so far. I will post the completed boxes once I have the rest of the parts I need early next week. Then the fun of disassembly of the Maggie’s begins.

Awesome.  I just printed binding post plates for my 3.6Rs out of polycarbonate.  The binding posts are just clamps.  No signal goes through them.  The drivers' wires make contact with the spades on the speaker cables and get clamped together by tightening the binding posts.

Yea the new Bambu Labs printer is pretty advanced.

No support, it did get a little stringy inside the groove and I had to pull some of it out, but it turned out ok.

These Maggie’s are a million times better with upgraded stands that straighten them virtically and lift them off the floor making your ears more centered to the array. If Magnepan just accepts that their crossovers suck and puts a proper design in and changes things like these stands, they would be unbeatable.

Nice work mkrawcz! I like the 3D printed case. I have done similar projects and 3D printing has become considerably cheaper to implement than even a decade ago.

Would you be willing to share any print files and setup info?

I'd rather not share my files, but I can give you some guidance on how I did it. I measured the dimensions of the parts with a digital caliper. With those measurements I used www.tinkercad.com to design the board and box. You basically make a 3d model of the board thick enough the recess the parts into. Then make each of the parts using cylinder holes in the dimensions of the actual parts and start mapping them into the board and recessing them to form the depressions. If you don't know how to use Tinkercad, you can use AI such as Grok to teach you exactly what to do in Tinkercad.

This is very impressive work!
I am in the middle (somewhere) of doing the GR-Research mod for my Magnepan 0.7s and will also be using an external crossover.
I don't expect mine will look anywhere as good as yours, though I am inspired by your post. Thank you.
