OK,  some explanations here:

1.  It's really,  really nice to meet old friends and make new ones.  This is the best part,  of course.  It's amazing that I have made this many friends over the years,  and of course biggest thanks of all go to Bill,  who helped me in teh room every single day,  and Shah / audioslave,  who helped me with the breakdown of that &^$^&%&*) wall.
2.  Yes,  the wall.   Man,  that will be a part of audio folklore in the future.  Great idea,  great execution,  great looks,  if I may say so,  and I'll never do that again,  ever !!  F..ing 23 hours total to pre-assemble here in Indy,  (drove up with it) then to bring it up into the room,  then assemble it,  then wall-paper it,  then breaking it down again.  Way too much work,  and really exhausted me for the show a lot.

3.  However,  had no choice,  because I sure as hell won't hang up the pics on extra screws screwed into a wall at the Hilton NYC. No way.

4.  Also, as for teh fireplace,  had to have it,  because for oner,  I had a bigger place to weigh down the back of the wall (even with all the crossbars,  etc),  and also,  I had to get into the back of the wall to do teh cabling,  and open up the windows at the end of the day.  So,  the back of the fireplace wasn't  fixed so that Klaus could do a Santa Claus,  hehehe.
Also,  as for the fake fire,  it also had the fake flames effect,  which actually looks very,  very coold and real,  but was too noisy.   Had to take it out.  Still,  I dug it.  The living room look was superb,  and the trick was to fool people thinking that the Loreleis were playing when in fact the pics were singing.  Worked.

5. As for the sound.  Loved my big Lorelei system.  Was very proud of it,  but it only got about 10 %  of the time,  because everybody,  and I mean EVERYBODY  just wanted to hear the pics.

6.  Well,  what can I say now about the pictures ?   Let me put it this way:  these are fairly new products for me,  and I was surprised as to how good they really are.  Fake wall,  heavy mdf ?  yes,  but more resonant and ideal as compared to regular house walls,  and man oh man,  they rocked.  Just flat out true audio or videophile quality,  period.  Keep in mind that I drove the pics with the $ 995.  combo of the Khartago and the Etesian,  so no trickery here whatsoever !!!  Important here is that I also played around with different screws in the back of them,  and the single biggest surprise to me at the show in my own room  was the fact that I was able to really "tweak"  and tune the performance of the pics.  Can I do a lot of Axis settings ?  No,  of course not,  but other than that,  the speakers can be dialed in beautifully in terms of bass,  openness,  and tonality / upper bass and upper mids.  Keep in mind that you're somewhat loading the rear wall with these babies,  so the results were actually dramatic,  and it was VERY  easy to do.   I'm happy.

7.  Don't care what you're doing with your equipment.  And this comes from somebody who has different color metals,  and even Platinum and 24 K gold options.  You don't know Jack about the wife factor WAF  until you have it.
Man oh man,  what a home run in terms of looks and practical aesthetics in decor.

That's it for now,

Klaus

Forgot, because the guys mentioned it.
Yes,  I have an end 90's Range Rover.  Not the new one,  but the previous P38  model.  Great ride,  just too %^$%$(^ expensive though.  I like to drive to the shows,  getting away from the family for a few days and be able to really  pump up the volume and rock out to my music.
And yes,  since I already have the truck,  i obviously pack it to the hilt.  It night take me a while,  but I always figure it out and overdo it,  hehehe.

Anyway,  the other thing about going to the NYC show with the truck is the ridiculous cost.  $ 50.  parking for a day ?????  Give me a break.

However,  might be able to get a bit $  out of it though thanks to the Sheridan  parking idiot.  He smashed the truck into a column really hard (don't know why he wouldn't know where the break is.  After all,  it's british,  yes,  but it's also left hand drive)  So,  exactly the corner of the right hand side,  bumper,  hood in appr.  3 inches,  fender,  etc,  About $ 5,000  in dmages.  Let's see what comes out of this,  hehehe.

Late,

Klaus

Here's a quote from 6moons [Paul Candy], in the industry features:
Quote
While Srajan offered a comprehensive report, I focused on the fewer, smaller, less expensive systems with one of two exceptions. First off, renegade Klaus Bunge's Odyssey room was easily the sickest room of the show. Unless you don't have kids or are 200 years old, sick means good as does cool, hot, bitchin', gnarly, phat, chillin' and sweet. In-wall speakers suck, right? You wouldn't think so if you ventured in this room. Since the Hilton folks wouldn't have been too happy to have their walls punched full of holes, Klaus -- who, I am convinced, is clinically insane -- muscled up a skid of plywood and built a wall in his demo room complete with wallpaper and a fireplace. Mounted on the faux wall was Odyssey's $1500/pr and larger $1950/pr wall-mounted speakers complete with your choice of laser print (80 to choose from) or your own photo transfers. Even at close range, these speakers looked like framed artwork. Music playback was remarkably vivid and powerful, with a decent rendering of depth that surprised me. Also on display was a complete system (sans source) that consisted of a pair of 180-watt monoblocks, preamp, Lorelei floorstanding speakers and full cabling all for the truly sick price of $5500. Throw in a decent source and you would have a killer system for under $7500. Nobody at HE2005 offered as much bang for your dollar as Klaus did.

That's freakin' high praise in my book. Congratulations on top of congratulations...must not spend more $$$....!

I would agree with Paul's comments. That room was killer for the price. Most of the time when someone says good for the price people assume they could do much better with slightly more money.

That is not the case here at all :!:

For the price of a complete system you would be lucky to get 1 component and maybe some cables from the other rooms at HE2005. Few rooms matched the prices and I do not think anyone matched for price/ performance.

If the system sounded that good in a small hotel room it would really rock given some space.

Klaus - would it be possible to swap out the image on the front of the picture speakers at a later date if so desired?  If so, could this be done by the owner, and do you have a ballpark idea of what it would cost?

Thanks!

Yes,  of course.  All the artwork can be chosen either from a catalog,  or you can submit your own.  Even artwork from photograph.  It's a regular frame,  so you can have as much artwork as you want.

As for the pricing,  it's about $ 50.,  which is very reasonable,  considering that it's a no-touch,  no-paint adding laser process.

Hi Klaus,
What is the material of the art work? is it canvas? Also, can you provide the spec such as impendance, efficiency, frequency response, dimension and weight?

Thanks

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how the image is mounted to the speaker.  Is it on a sort of subframe, and any replacement would include this subframe?

Would the outer aluminum frame then pressure fit over the image subframe?  (A few closeup pictures of the outer frame and image mounting would probably help, if not too much trouble.)

Is a wooden outer frame possible at some point?

What image format and resolution requirements are required if you choose to submit a photograph?

Thanks!

Yes,  the material is Canvas  and really good as far as the sonic characteristics are concerned as for the "muffling"  of the sound you usually have with grilles.  Quite good.

As for the frame,  yes,  very simple.  Take off the top of the frame -  2 screws,  take out the pic,  and put in another one.  Total time,  1-2 minutes.  The canvas itself is glued on a wooden 4-piece outer frame itself,  which then is hidden behind the Canvas.  Very simple.
Any new art  or photos on Canvas is only about $ 50.  That's it. !!!

As for the pic frames themselves,  yes,  there are all sort of choices,  including several wooden pieces.

Now, guess that the really big news will be at the end of the month,  when we'll have all the different pictures  etc.  on a NEW  !!!!!!!  and IMPROVED !!!!!!  web site.  How about that.  Only about 2 more sessions of  photo shoots and I should be done.  Of course there'll be a lot of writing as well.  Aaaaargh.

Anyway,  one of the thoughts that I have is to maybe get a pair of the pics on the road.  Either the pics or the $ 1,500.  system .  Don't know yet .

Outstanding, Klaus - thanks for the answers!

One question got overlooked, however... "What image format and resolution requirements are required if you choose to submit a photograph?"

And I'll add one more... what is the best way to mount these to the wall?  Is the intent to actually couple the speaker to the wall, or does a typical picture mounting provide the same sound?

Thanks!

Here we go.  Tried to paste some of the pics,  but the system wouldn't let me.

Anyway,  see  below as per our brochure:

With the new “Art On-Wall Loudspeaker Systems”  we set out to create a symbiosis of aesthetic home design and décor on one hand,   and practicality with a true high end performance on the other.

Our new systems are all Scan-Speak designs that offer a true high end perspective in terms of definition, detail,  tonality, dynamics,  and  three-dimensionality.  Unlike the hundreds of in-wall speakers available today,  our  systems don’t require messy and costly construction.  Instead,  hang them on the wall,  choose your art piece or create your own with photos that can be printed on the canvas,  and feel free to change your art pieces whenever you feel like.  Aesthetics and flexibility and performance.

Canvas  1      Canvas High End         Canvas Center
