OS3 question
« on: 13 Dec 2022, 05:45 pm »
I’m wondering if the new MM replacement will allow users to access the attached hard drives through the network.
It would be excellent if we could upload and remove music from the drives without unplugging them!
Any chance?
TIA

Excellent suggestion @highendfool.  My Aurender servers allow placing music files onto their drives via my imac desktop.

MM can do this already through SAMBA.    It is a bit slow and clunky but the functionality is there  :)

Yep just did it on my Mac mini to rearrange some files because MM decided to put them where I told it not too. :/

I'll reiterate what others have already confirmed and that Manic Moose already does this and its replacement will as well, likely in a similar fashion although perhaps will either think of some ways or someone will suggest  some improvements to the feature.

Have no idea what is meant by “samba” . Are there instructions somewhere on how to do it?
Thanks!

After Samba enabled on BDP, make sure your on the same network as the BDP.  from the finder menu Go-->Network.  Does the BDP appear in the list?  If it don't watch the vid below

^^^
Need to make sure the Mac has file sharing unrestricted.....learning curve here.....Macs don't like to share files without permissions set.   Much easier to use an attached USB drive and move files direct off the computer.   That's why I never installed a drive internally in my BDP-3.

I'm not smart enough to recommend a better solution for OS3.    :)

Hi Chris which file systems are (mm) or will be supported (os3) for usb drives? I guess NTFS and exFAT are already supported, what about HFS+ and APFS? Is there a preferred one in terms of access time or read speed by the streamer?

Thanks!

Thanks so much! I’m connected and good to go!
Sure would have saved a lot of time and effort, if I had known about this from the start!!
Perhaps the new OS will be released with better instructions ?!

Such great support here on the Bryston forum. Thanks all for the help! 👍👍✌🏻

Hey jobiwan, I also appreciate the help with Samba since on Windows 7 the  BDP-2 USB drive just shows up under Network. On the Mac, there was nothing so I saw a new project looming until you stepped in.  :)

Will the new Bryston OS3 be app based, desktop, or both?
