OB H-frame Flat Pack Assembly Video (thanks Peter)
« on: 27 Mar 2020, 08:19 pm »
Hey Folks
Our friend and collegue Peter offered to do an assembly video of one of our dual h-frame flat packs.   I've built so many of these things now  I shared our preferred  method of glue up with   Peter so he could pass it on to  our customers.  It really  is    as easy  as it looks    :thumb:

and for  folks  who  aren't familiar withthe products, here is the   thread with tons of pictures, both  dry fit flat packs as well as some of our  finished  cabs

For  folks who want wiring help,   I've put schemaktics as well as   written, step by step   instructions here:

Peter / Jay -- this is hugely informative. I have to build about 4 of these and it is exactly what i needed to protect me from gluegate. Thanks!

Hey great Video Peter! I'm sure this will be very helpful for many building other GR models as well as subs as assembly is similar. Also the importance of good glue technique. Personally I like to use more clamps but that's just me.

I too started out wrenching for a living then switched to woodworking/ cabinet building. Got sick of being greasy all the time.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! (and for cleaning up shop for the movie. Your shop isn't always that clean is it? )

Cheers.

I actually  asked Peter to do  the asembly with minimal clamps as  we get asked all the time " what   is the minimal clamp requirement"  ....  a lot of folks don't have  clamps and have to go out  and buy them.

On top of that,  the design really doesn't benifit  from additional clamps as the  side panels  are located via dowels/dado's,  you  can't  squeeze them together    any further.     With triples or quads, you'd obviously  need    2 or  4 more  respectively across the a  braces.  I guess if   wanted,  an additional clamp could be added  between the  braces and  top/base but,  it's not necessary,  that's  1.5"  MDF,  the  2 in the center  pull everything  together  nicely.

OTOH,    as you know,  one  can never  have too many   .
And,   those   parallel  Besse's  do a great job of clamping  across those braces

Although I wrench some on automotive still, my career was in the marine world. A lot less greasy, but more up and down when working inside boats on trailers.

I initially had a more elaborate plan for glue-up, but after talking it over and doing it the way Jay suggested, I'm not sure where you'd add clamps to make it mo' betta. Especially on the slick outer surface of MDF, I imagine one could clamp hard enough to starve a joint of glue. Seems it always a matter of balance...

Shop isn't always like that, but when I added dust collection, it improved things a bunch. I'm kinda anal about it now, and sometimes vacuum while babysitting CNC. It also gets a good leaf blower job a couple times a year.

Good video.  Do you have any video instructions on woofers and wiring?

No Video that I know of, but maybe someday.

Although I'm not sure I could add anything to what's here. (It is linked in the assembly video description):
