Classic Phono vs Cornet???
« on: 13 Jan 2005, 11:16 am »
I have purchased the reccomended chassis for the original(Classic) Phono. Can it be used for the Cornet? Other than CSS, Iron and mono switch are there other differances between the two amps?
Thanks, Julien

Yes it can.  But the 2" height makes it difficult.  You'll have to file or cut one of the bottom lips in order to get board in.  The Cornet(2) board is 11.65 inches and fits pretty tight into the 12" chassis.  The 3" tall version works better.

In short, you can get it to fit with a little work.  Standoffs need to be real short too.

jh :)

I tried to use the Hammond 12x8x2 chassis a while back for the Cornet(2).   I wrote up some of the details here:

I didn't actually finish the assembly with the 12x8x2 chassis but I don't think it's impossible...  (I never did figure out if there was a good way to mount the AC cord)  12x8x3 makes it a lot easier.

..on the topic of Classic vs. Cornet 2:

Is there an assembled version of the Classic available? I see that the Cornet 2 is $995. The Classic pictured w/ wood caps looks better (IMHO) and the specs appear to be the same- actually the classic is rated a bit quieter- a few db's.

Cost?

thanks,
