stacking components

I am adding another component to my system. Based on the opening heights for the shelves and number of shelves I will have to stack something as I will be be one shelf short of the number of components that I have. If I stack my Khartago amp on top of my Tempest preamp, I'll have about 1" clearance between the top of the amp and the shelf above. Is that sufficient? I keep the amp on 24-7. My backup option is to put my DVD player on top of my preamp. Thoughts?

DVD on top of Tempest ONLY !!!!! Less PS interference and less heat
and only if you absolutely have to...always a good idea to put cones, tennis balls, wood, etc. between them to increase the distance because of PS's.....
