I was going to start with the conical pencil tip.  What are the others used for?

The best soldering tip is to have Mike Missel or Jeff Jackson do it.

Assuming you're talking about finer electronics, light electrical work....(like soldering crossovers)????

ST4 looks like something used for radiator repair or maybe stained glass work (although I've never done stained glass).

The ones I use for electronics look like ST5 and ST6.

Yeah.  Take it to them now, or take it to them later.  :banghead:

Different applications have different needs, but in general the smaller the better for most electronic stuff.

When you doing binding posts however a big fat-ass-tip is great.

I use the references above for anything serious.  However I'm also learning to solder.

Next step is to practice on some scrap boards.

Then eventually I'll cross off doing a kit build from my bucket list.

My wife likes this bucket list, much better than Austin Power's version.

I taught my daughter to solder. In fact, she soldered the crossover networks for her own speakers.
There's a thread complete with pictures and everything. So, if she can do it, you can do it.
She was 9 at the time. The speakers work great to this very day.
