Douglas,

The offset woofers are to avoid standing waves inside the cabinet.

All I can say is that horn subs must be *experienced*.   Remember I play very fast music and my ears are trained for that.  The Deflex panels I plan to add to my subs will increase the speed by breaking up the backwave and letting the woofers move back and forth better.  Danny Boy put Deflex inside my Swans and the improvement was stunning.  The Swans you tried are not in the same league as mine.  They are a bad compr ...

is *this* the horn sub yure gonna build?

seriously, i'm always interested in getting better bass.  the question is how much room will the subwoofers take up, & how much $$$ is necessary for a pair.

re: your nht subs having offset woofers, w/a slot-loaded passive radiator, standing waves inside the cabinet aren't an issue w/the vmps'.  also, i did a search on nht's site for the sw2si.  seems it has only *one* woofer, a 10" driver.    sounds more like a "woofer", not a "subwoofer"!    (in fact, according to nht's website, the never made a passive sub w/two drivers.  tho their new u1 sub, w/two 12" drivers, is technically a passive sub, as its amplification & x-over are outboard.)

re: how much better the 4" hi-vi drivers are, vs the 5", this misses the point.  which is the vmps larger subs are way fast enuff to seamlessly blend with *any* driver.  they are clean, tight, & fast, even when crossed over as high as 125hz.
