Carusoracer,

Late to the party here, but I can endorse the Charbroil Infra Red Bistro Gas Grill.  Small, efficient, heats up fast, no flame ups and easy to clean.  It won't impress friends, no side burners, no multi zone heating, just fast efficient cooking that I have found to be super.  I ordered mine from Amazon: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=post;topic=115726.40;last_msg=1227353

Good luck with your decision.

Love my Weber...going on 12 years with only a replacement of grates & starter.  That being said, I just started using GrillGrates, which are aluminium grates which sit atop your existing grates.  Aluminium heats up fast, and leaves gret grill marks, but the real benefit is the bottom of the grates is solid with holes for juices.  The close bottom surface gives a very close heat element, rather than simply hot air from the gas jets.  It does a great job of searing meat without burning, but more importantly it prevents flare-ups with greasy/oily/fatty foods.  My first go-around with burgers & they were claimed the "best ever" by my family.

I have no relationship with the company...but it does up the quality of your grilling.

Just spend $150-$200 to get a decently constructed grill of a size that meets your needs, then get GrillGrates!  These things rock!  I'm getting arond 700 degrees F on the surface with a $200 Wal-Mart grill.  I think adding them to a regular grill beats almost anything you can get "stock" up to around $500 or so.

I want to thank you for the GrillGrates recommendation.  Currently we have a couple of smokers and a Charbroil "Infrared" gas grill.  The original grates lasted about six months before rusting.  I bought GrillGrates about six weeks ago due to your endorsement.  They are a must for me from now on.

Glad to see they're working out for you!  Yeah, that's the problem I've continually read about in reviews of the Charbroil Infra grills- they're made of some kind of steel that rusts pretty fast.  The GrillGrates are anodized aluminum and don't seem to corrode at all.  My infrared thermometer reads temps of around 700 degree F on the top of the GG's!  Pretty good for a home grill, and not far from the temp we run the broiler I cook on at work.  They do indeed do as good a job as advertised at minimizing flareups.  I can grill burgers of 73/27 and not get a grease flare up.

I have a Weber with cast iron grates that I'd like to replace, as well as the 'flavorizer' bars. Looks like GrillGrates is highly regarded here. So these just sit atop the existing grates? Do they slide around when flipping food?

It's just sit on the top of the existing grates and it stay put.

I have the Weber shown above and the Grillgrates. Both are value for money. The grillgrates heat up quickly and I have not had a problem with food sticking, even fish. Would recommend both.

On my Weber Genesis the Grill Grates replaced the existing grates, not on top of them. Fit like a glove and they are terrific!

Grill grates look like something I will have to add. Just need to measure to see what size I need.  :thumb:
